The Swiss Style

I love the Swiss Style. I related with it before I knew what it was. Due to a happy accident I was assigned to do a presentation for a chapter in my History of Graphic Design book (for my class with the same name) and the chapter was simple "The International Typographic System", otherwise known as the Swiss Style).

Anyway, I got a heads up from swissmiss on my twitter this morning. There's a great article over at Smashing Magazine all about this modern, minimalist graphic design style. Please do check it out.

Wishlist- Swiss First Aid Kit Box

I've been perusing SWISSMISS today (mostly the "switzerland related" tag) and saw this great first aid kit box. I'd love it, but to be kept as a tool box, most likely. Plus it's just plain cool because it's swiss. I got swiss on the brain today, I guess.

Anyone Can Swiss

The gloves are off. It has been suggested that our environment is over-saturated with use of Helvetica. Some have even suggested that Helvetica is a complete design cop-out. Others would say that Helvetica and associated signage are beautiful works of art that requires hours at the computer, slaving over letter spacing. This project suggest that perhaps Helvetica posters are so extremely formulaic that perhaps a monkey (or a computer) could do it? This is an experiment in design discourse.

The jury is still out.

Oh dear. This is definitely brilliant, but dammit, Helvetica is not a design cop-out!

Wishlist- Swiss Army Flash Drive

This is a pretty sweet little device, but good luck taking this on a plane. It's not HORRIBLY expensive, but it's better than the one they sell at American Apparel. Note to self: Never buy swiss army at American Apparel.

Wishlist- Helvetica Moleskine

I've barely heard of them before now, but Moleskine is like the SIGG of notebooks. They're super trendy and design people like them. Plus they come in lots of styles. But you're not really missing out if you've just got a regular water bottle. HOWEVER. This little Helvetica edition of Moleskine just about took my breath away. Love the Swiss style. Helvetica is the best font there is, I'd love to have this for my shelf. And then maybe get a generic one... For actual use.

BUY IT (for me) HERE

(It's in Hong Kong dolalrs... $198 translates to $25, roughly)
